Chapter 22: Massacre

- Sophie’s Perspective -

"What should we do with the woman? You seem quite clever. Decide."

"Yes, I will. Can you fly with those wings? First, we need to escape this dungeon. Once we're outside, you can go wild as much as you like."

Fortunately, this floor is connected to the outside by an opening. If he can fly, escaping will be a simple task.

"Very well. It’s an easy matter."

He wrapped his strong arms around me and beat his wings powerfully. I felt the rush of wind and a sense of weightlessness as we lifted off the ground, rapidly rising toward the light.

The heavy, damp air of the dungeon grew distant.

A cool wind wrapped around my body. I instinctively took a deep breath, savoring the fresh air. After days in that dungeon, the outside air felt so refreshing that it almost brought tears to my eyes.

"Now, let's head to the royal palace. We’ll turn the capital into a sea of flames and destroy everything. Our ideal kingdom is almost within reach. Isn't it wonderful? Let’s plunge those arrogant nobles and royals, sitting so comfortably in their thrones, into the depths of fear. They deserve to experience the same despair we’ve tasted. Especially those who looked down on me for being a Boulanger noble... I’ll make sure they pay with their lives."

As we flew toward the capital, I spotted a military force below. It was the banner of Count Bulan. They were likely reinforcements for the king’s campaign. Around three thousand soldiers. The Bulan family was renowned for their elite forces, one of the prestigious noble families of the Kingdom of Yvegrand.

And they were staunch traditionalists.

I had heard that the previous head of family had even called for the extermination of all Bulan nobles.

"They’ll make the perfect first sacrifice. Hey, you, take care of them for me."

"Understood."

The monster stepped in front of the army. I hid behind him to avoid being caught in the chaos.

"What is that thing?"

"How dare you obstruct our forces! You’d better be ready to face the consequences."

"Take them down! We can't afford any more delays."

The men drew their swords and charged at us.

"Pathetic fools. You're too slow. Far too slow."

The monster laughed mockingly, took a deep breath, and unleashed a massive fire breath, just like a dragon. The soldiers’ faces froze in confusion, unable to comprehend what was happening, before they were swallowed by the fireball.

"You monster! I will be the one to defeat you!"

A familiar face appeared—Count Bulan himself. As a renowned warrior among the nobility, he had skillfully avoided the flames.

The count’s blade came down on the monster.

But it was effortlessly blocked by the creature’s green arm. The count’s treasured sword shattered against the monster's hard skin, falling to pieces.

"My ancestral sword...!"

"How dull. You... die now."

Without even caring about the warrior noble’s pride, the monster struck with a single blow, snapping the count’s neck and ending his life.

Seeing their leader's body crumble, the remaining soldiers scattered like insects, fleeing in terror.

"Hahaha! Is this the so-called elite force that other nations fear? How amusing, how utterly amusing!"

I was intoxicated by the power.
